2017 Review

The ITCMS event in 2017 was outstanding by all measures. From increased attendance to fantastic speakers, the delegate survey showed that the event has improved year on year with a rating of excellent.

We will continue to address the handling of crises faced by the travel industry, its suppliers and travelers in hopes that as an industry we will learn from previous events, share best practices and be better prepared as a result. By looking at this difficult topic, across industries and regions, ITCMS aims to build confidence and resilience.

The 2017 event made it abundantly clear that companies cannot rely solely on crisis communication plans, nor can they wait until the crisis has occurred to develop a crisis management plan. Experts from organisations such as emergency assistance, public relations, communication and media companies, insurance and data providers, journalists, cruise lines and tour operators all collaborated at ITCMS to share important lessons and insights from their firsthand experiences.
These knowledge and information gathering sessions were complimented by networking opportunities amongst delegates and world-renowned speakers alike, who were able to exchange ideas in an intimate and focused setting. We pride ourselves on producing an event that aides in development and opens communication.

The event was another great success as we continue to build awareness and reach more companies to facilitate their sharing of best practices and lessons learned through experience and professionalism. This year’s attendees identified the following areas for action:

1. Bring in more government officials and police to speak about their view during a crisis.

2. Present more in depth review minute by minute of actual crises and present how they were addressed. What were the players’ biggest concerns and issues?

3. Communication and media discussion to include discussion around fake news, wire services, television production teams; how do they want to see the information during a crisis

4. Innovation and where things are going aide in directional planning, include more forward thinking on products and services.

5. Cybersecurity and how to deal with new threats. Allow much more time for interaction between the audience and speakers in the form of question and answers, perhaps even breakout sessions.

6. Safety and handling of youth groups.

7. Data and analytics, how do you source data on crises, how do you know if it’s accurate, when to use it, with whom and where.

8. Review the steps and planning process again.

9. State of the subject and the regional differences should be supported by specific examples.

10. Establish program for Resilience Centers.
